Madonna and Child, 13th century, incomplete sculpture, stone, Eglise St Germain des Pres, Paris, France. The statue was discovered in 1999 during excavations at Place de Furstenberg and found broken into three pieces. Founded as an Abbey in 542 the building was destroyed several times by the Normans and reconsecrated in 1163 by Pope Alexander III. Only the church survived the Abbey's destruction during the French Revolution.
