Lalla Roukh
Lalla Roukh the noble princess, shown here, is covered in gold and jewels; even her shoes are sewn with emeralds. A very light, rose-coloured veil, embroidered with silver, covers her majestic figure. We notice a characteristic Indian garment; a sort of spencer which covers that throat and upper arms in a different material from the garment underneath. Here it is in cloth of gold. Underneath are fine transparent fabrics embroidered in gold, which cannot be clearly represented in the picture, but add an indescribable effect. Image taken from Lalla Ro??kh. [A description of Tableaux vivants representing scenes from the poem by T. Moore.] Divertissement mele de chants et de danses. Execute au Chateau royal de Berlin le 27. Janvier 1822, Avec 23 planches coloriees..This entertainment was based on the poem Lalla Rookh, an oriental romance, by Thomas Moore, published in 1817. Originally published/produced in Berlin, 1822.
