Capture of the King's lion
The young shoemaker captures the King's lion. The King on the roof of his palace-porch, a graceful figure, fanned with a scarf by his sword-bearer: numerous spectators as the young man rides the lion, looking back at the King while he does so. 25.5 by 19 cm. Image taken from Shahnama of Firdawsi, with 39 miniatures. Opaque watercolour. Safavid/Isfahan style. Originally published/produced in 1614
