Murder of Iraj
Murder of Iraj by his brothers Tur and Salm. He is represented being pulled off a throne and butchered, while women bystanders weep. Above the throne a section of the wall is occupied by shaped niches containing golden vessels of various forms: such niches may still be seen in the Ali Qapi pavilion at Isfahan. Rubbed and somewhat damaged. 25.5 by 19 cm. Image taken from Shahnama of Firdawsi, with 39 miniatures. Opaque watercolour. Safavid/Isfahan style. Originally published/produced in 1614
