Luttrell Psalter
Execution of Thomas of Lancaster, [Whole folio] Psalm 29. Border decoration with grotesques. In the outer margin, a bearded man bestrides a lion, pehaps representing King David; below him a cross-bowman loads his bolt, his right leg raised to tense the bow. In the lower margin, a swordsman is about to behead a kneeling bearded man, thought to represent the execution of Thomas, Earl of Lancaster, who was beheaded at Pontefract Castle in 1322. On the right, a longbowman strings his bow Image taken from Luttrell Psalter. Originally published/produced in England [East Anglia]; circa 1325-1335.
