Nuraghe Tholos and Nuraghe Losa, Sardinia, Italy. Artist: Samuel Magal
Nuraghe Tholos and Nuraghe Losa, Sardinia, Italy. The island of Sardinia features unique megalithic edifices known as Nuraghe. Most of them were built in the Bronze Age, between 1500 and 1800 BC. They are considered to be the best preserved megalithic structures in Europe. The use of the nuraghi has not been clearly determined: whether funerary monuments, ordinary dwelling, military strongholds, meeting halls or religious temples. Nuraghe Losa is one of the larger nuraghi in Sardinia. Around the nuraghe there are traces of a nuragic village and wall. The nucleus of the prehistoric structures is composed of a complex Tholos nuraghe, the top floor of which has fallen. On the southern side of the nuraghe is a round hut.
