The gymnasium at Olympia, Greece. The gymnasium, located to the northwest of the Altis, is a 2nd century BC building that consists of an open area surrounded by stoas on all four sides. This was were athletes trained for events that required a lot of space, such as the javelin, discus and running. Olympia, a sanctuary of ancient Greece, is probably best known for having been the site of the Olympic Games in classical times.
