The landing of a balloon
The landing of a balloon. The inhabitants of Gonesse in France alarmed by the landing of a balloon on August 27. The details below the plate refer to Montgolfier, though it was Jacques Alexander Cesar Charles, assisted by the brothers, Aine and Cadet Robert, who released a hydrogen gas filled balloon on that day. Image taken from A collection of broadsides, cuttings from newspapers, engravings, etc, of various dates, formed by Miss S. S. Banks. Bound in nine volumes. Originally published/produced in 1780-1810. (A messieurs les souscripteurs. )
