The Great South Taku Fort
A view of the Great South Taku Fort, showing its defences towards the sea & the river and the scene of the unsuccessful attack by the flotilla of gunboats under the command of Admiral Hope in 1859. Panoramic view composed of three joined prints, taken from the battlements of the South Taku Fort. A series of protective moats is shown interspersed with deep lines of wooden stakes, with the Peiho River and the sea beyond. Originally published/produced in 25 Aug 1860.
