Cape of Good Hope
Cape of Good Hope. Table Mountain dominates the picture. On the shore is seen a walled fort, from which flies the Dutch flag. To the right is another fortified building, and behind are a number of warehouses or dwellings. Shipping in the foreground. In the roads, besides several smaller vessels and boats, lie three large ships flying Dutch colours: whilst in the immediate foreground the red ensign floats from the stern of a British vessel, which is saluting on arrival. Oil on canvas. British school. Originally published/produced in c.1731 Illustrated by George Lambert, Samuel Scott.
