Great Portal and tympanum of Cathedral of Santa Maria of Palma or La Seu, Palma de Mallorca, Majorca, Balearic Islands, Spain. Here, the Virgin is depicted in the scene of the Immaculate Conception, surrounded by the 15 symbols of the Marian Litany. The Roman Catholic cathedral was built on the site of a mosque and is a huge building in Catalan Gothic style. It was begun by King James I of Aragon in 1229 and finished in 1601. It towers over the old city of Palma overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.
