Rose window above the choir, Cathedral of Santa Maria of Palma or La Seu, Palma de Mallorca, Majorca, Balearic Islands, Spain. This is one of 5 rose windows in the cathedral and has a diameter of 11.3m. The original fell in 1581, it was repaired in 1857 and again in 1904 under Antoni Gaudi, but was damaged in the Spanish Civil War and finally repaired in 1946. The Roman Catholic cathedral itself was built on the site of a mosque and is a huge building in Catalan Gothic style. It was begun by King James I of Aragon in 1229 and finished in 1601. It towers over the old city of Palma overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.
