Chapter house of Vezelay Abbey church, Vezelay, Yonne, Burgundy, France. Vezelay Abbey was a Benedictine and Cluniac monastery founded in the 9th century by St Badilo, who was said to have brought back relics of Mary Magdalene from the Holy Land. The Abbey Church or Basilica of St Mary Magdalene is a 12th century Burgundian Romanesque church. The building was extensively remodeled by Viollet-le-Duc 1840-61 to prevent collapse. The chapter house has a rib-vaulted ceiling and carved Gothic capitals.
