Pipeclay figure from a Roman tomb.
Pipeclay figure from a Roman tomb at Colchester. It is the figure of a lector reading from a scroll: Romans were customarily entertained at meals by professional readers. Originally thought to be from a child's grave, but was likely that of a Roman official. Now at Colchester and Essex Museum.
