Peasant with family
A peasant with his wife and family. The mother is smoking tobacco with a pipe. The father wears attached to his girdle, a tobacco purse, knife case, and his flint and steel, by which the Chinese light a pipe very expeditiously. The feet of the children are bound in bandages to restrict the growth of the feet. Image taken from The Costume of China. Illustrated in forty-eight coloured engravings. Originally published/produced in William Miller: London, 1805.
