Daniel Mendoza (1764-1836). Pugilist/Boxer. Portrait. Known as the 'father of scientific boxing'. Billed himself as 'Mendoza the Jew'. Became the heavyweight boxing champion of England. A favourite of the Prince of Wales, he was the first boxer to be accorded royal patronage.
