Battle of Chemulpo
Battle of Chemulpo, 'Russian heroes at the Battle of Chemulpo'. Two Russian warships, the cruiser Varyag and the gunboat, Koreyets, were blocked in Chemulpo by a Japanese Squadron. A Japanese torpedo boat attacked the Koreyets. Captain Rudnev ordered his sailors to scuttle the damaged Varyag and blow up the Koreyets. The crews of both ships were taken aboard British, French and Italian cruisers stationed nearby. Image taken from A set of Russian cartoons on the Russo-Japanese war, issued from January to June, 1904. Originally published/produced in Moscow and St.Petersburg, 1904.
