Conference rooms, The large conference room where the general peace will be signed (1697). The room where the peace between England, Spain, and the United Provinces of the Netherlands on one side and France on the other was signed on the 20 September 1697 (1697). The illustration at the top shows the room set aside for the signature of the general peace that was to include all of the participants, including the numerous states headed by Emperor Leopold I, the sovereign of the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation. The lower picture shows the nearby room where the treaty between France, Great Britain, Spain and the Dutch Republic had been signed on 20 September. The Swedish mediator sits at the centre of the table, with the ink pot in front of him. Illustrated by Jan Van Vianen.
