The Park at Enghien
The Park at Enghien (ca. 1685). The upper view shows visitors navigating their way through the maze (which was created at the same time as the surviving maze at Hampton Court) while onlookers enjoy a flagon of wine. A large statue of Amphitrite, Poseidon's wife and goddess of the seas in Greek mythology, is placed at the centre of the maze. The lower view further emphasises the point, juxtaposing a green niche enclosing a statue of the Greek hero Hercules with a fountain showing the Three Graces. Image taken from: A Collection of 86 plans and views of The Hague. Published in Amsterdam, 1718.   Illustrated by Romeyn de Hooghe.
