Dasaratha tells Rama he will be regent
Dasaratha tells Rama he will be regent, Dasaratha is feeling his age and, with the approval of the assembled Brahmins and ministers, tells his eldest son Rama now fifteen years old that he will make him regent of the kingdom. Rama and Laksmana then leave the king to tell Kausalya, whom they find dressed in white and worshipping a small, gold image of Vishnu with Sumitra helping her. As a portent of impending disaster, their meeting is spied on by Kaikeyi's maid Manthara. Rama and Laksmana then depart to their palace in a chariot to prepare for the ceremony amidst general rejoicing, and to the accompaniment of the drums and trumpets that announce royal arrivals and departures.
