The Princess's Bow alias the Bow Begum
The Princess's Bow alias the Bow Begum, Here the three main players in the impeachment, Burke, Fox and Sheridan bow to Bahu Begum (referred to as 'Bow' Begum in England), the influential widow of the ruler of Oudh. Hastings' enemy Sir Philip Francis orchestrates affairs from his hiding place beneath the Begum's chair. The wigs and swords on the right represent the other prosecutors who all wore court dress to show the high regard in which they held the Begum. Sayers portrays the men being manipulated by the Begum's exaggerated display of female emotions. Published : 1788 Illustrated by James Sayers.
