The royal house of Rijswijk
The royal house of Rijswijk, The royal house of Rijswijk where the conferences for the general peace were held (1697). This view of the palace is taken from the south, with the roofs of Delft (where the French delegation were staying) in the background. It shows the moment when the coaches of the Allies (left), mediator (centre) and the French (right) with their suites simultaneously crossed the canal surrounding the palace for another day of negotiations. In the foreground local citizens wait by the canal surrounding the grounds to greet the ambassadors. Illustrated by Jan Van Vianen.
