Church of St Peter Mancroft, Norwich, Norfolk, c1850. Albumen print. Thomas Damant Eaton, described as 'the father of the arts in the Eastern Counties', was a music critic and musician, and a gentleman amateur photographer who became the first President of the Norwich Photographic Society. Active from the mid-1840s, Eaton worked with paper negatives and salted paper prints and was familiar with many photographic processes. This view probably used a paper negative that may have subsequently have been waxed to produce this particular print.
