City of Manchester Stadium under construction, February 2002. Also known as Eastlands, the stadium was built as the venue for the 2002 Commonwealth Games. It was then redeveloped, with the running track removed and a new north stand built for use as a 48,000 seat football ground for Manchester City FC, who moved in in 2003. In 2011 the ground was renamed the Etihad Stadium after an agreement with the club's sponsor, Etihad Airways.
