Oak staircase in the east range, Apethorpe Palace, Northamptonshire, 2008. Viewed from the south-east on the first half landing. Apethorpe Hall was given to Elizabeth I by her father, Henry VIII. It later became a favourite royal residence for James I and Charles I. The house boasts one of the country's most complete Jacobean interiors. In 2014 it was renamed Apethorpe Palace to reflect its royal connections.
