Queen Mary's Hospital, Roehampton, London, January 1918. A wounded serviceman, missing part of a leg, seated next to a prosthetic leg on the British North Borneo (War Relief Fund) Bed. Queen Mary's Hospital was established in 1915 for servicemen who had lost limbs during action in the First World War. Several thousand amputees were rehabilitated at the hospital with many of the patients receiving prosthetic limbs.
