'The Scriptorium, Gloucester', 1919. The foundation stone of the cathedral was laid in 1089 and the church was consecrated in 1100. It did not actually become a cathedral until 1541, having previously been within the see of Worcester. The building is notable for its 225 foot high bell tower and its cloisters, the ceiling of which includes the earliest example of fan vaulting in England. The Cathedral is also famous as a location for the Harry Potter films. Image printed with Mander Brothers' inks by The Arthur Cox Illustrating Co. Ltd. From The British Printer Vol. XXXI.
