Union Street, Aberdeen, Scotland, c1960s. Union Street is a major street and shopping thoroughfare in Aberdeen, named after the Acts of Union 1800. It was built at a higher level to relieve the strain on lower surrounding streets. Designed in the early 19th century under plans suggested by Charles Abercrombie, its construction nearly bankrupted the city.
