Armoured cruiser 'Aurora' on the Neva River, Petrograd, Russia, November 1917 Artist: Pyotr Otsup
Armoured cruiser 'Aurora' on the Neva River, Petrograd, Russia, November 1917. The 'Aurora' is famous for having fired the first shot of the Russian Revolution of October 1917. On 25 October her crew refused an order to take to sea and at 9.45 pm a blank shot from her forecastle gun signalled the beginning of the attack on the Winter Palace, in which most of the ship's crew took part. Found in the collection of the Russian State Film and Photo Archive, Krasnogorsk.
