Grand Dukes Alexander Alexandrovich and Vladimir Alexandrovich of Russia, c1859-c1861. Grand Dukes Alexander (1845-1894) and Vladimir (1847-1909) were the second and third sons of Tsar Nicholas II and Maria Alexandrovna. Alexander succeeded his father as tsar in 1881 after he was assassinated, while Vladimir went on to become the senior Romanov grand duke in the first part of the reign of his nephew, Nicholas II. Found in the collection of the Russian State Film and Photo Archive, Krasnogorsk.
