Yakov Polonsky and Afanasy Fet, Russian poets, c1890. Polonsky (1820-1898) was a leading poet in the Romantic tradition of Pushkin. Several Russian composers, including Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninoff, put his poems to music. Fet (1820-1892) was one of the pre-eminent Russian poets of the last quarter of the 19th century, and exerted a strong influence on Alexander Blok and the Symbolist poets.
