Valerian Kuybyshev, Soviet politician, 1930. Kuybyshev (1888-1935) was a Russian revolutionary who became a senior political commisar during the Russian Civil War. After the war he served as Chairman of the Supreme Council of the National Economy from 1928-1930 and from 1930-1934 was the head of Gosplan, the committee responsible for economic planning in the Soviet Union. He was also a member of the Politburo. After his death the city of Samara was renamed after him. Found in the collection of the Russian State Film and Photo Archive, Krasnogorsk.
