The Crypt, Glamis Castle, Forfar, Scotland, 1894. Barrel vaulted room within the medieval part of the castle. This would originally have been the 'lower hall' in which the family received their visitors and dealt with public business. Glamis Castle was the home of the Lyon family since the 14th century, though the present building dates largely from the 17th century. Glamis was the childhood home of Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother. From Beautiful Britain; views of our stately homes. [The Werner Company of Chicago, 1894]
