Wilton House, Salisbury, Wiltshire, 1894. The first recorded building on the site of Wilton House was a priory founded by King Egbert in the 9th century. The home of the Earls of Pembroke for over 400 years, Wilton House dates from the 16th century although it has undergone frequent alterations. The Palladian south front of the house was designed by Inigo Jones and Isaac de Caus. From Beautiful Britain; views of our stately homes. [The Werner Company of Chicago, 1894]
