Hansom cab, 19th century.
Hansom cab, 19th century. Invented by Joseph Hansom in 1834 the hackney vehicle named after him was popular from the 19th century until the motor cab superseded it during the period from 1905 to 1912. It was a closed two-wheeled carriage drawn by a single horse. The interior seat faced forward for two passengers and the driver sat outside on a high seat behind the body of the cab. © London Museum/Heritage Images
