Landowner giving the Paschal greeting to her peasants, Russia, 1890s.
Landowner giving the Paschal greeting to her peasants, Russia, 1890s. The Paschal greeting is an Easter tradition in some Christian churches, including the Eastern Orthodox Church. Instead of saying hello, a person greets another with the greeting Christ is Risen!. The person being greeted responds by saying Truly, He is Risen. In Russia it is also traditional to exchange a triple kiss on alternating cheeks after the greetings are exchanged. From a private collection.
