Brooklyn Suspension Bridge, New York, USA: cable anchorage on the Brooklyn shore, 1883. Designed by John Augustus Roebling (1806-1869), who died of Tetanus (Lockjaw) sixteen days after his foot was crushed in an accident on 6 July 1869 during early work in the construction, the bridge was completed by his son Washington Augustus Roebling (1837-1926) and was opened in 1883.
