Scene from Little Red Riding Hood, 1900. Artist: Tom Browne
Scene from Little Red Riding Hood, 1900. This fairy tale, common to Germany, Sweden and France appears in Histoires ou Contes du temps passe (Tales of Times Past) by Charles Perrault, Paris 1697, translated into English c1729. Red Riding Hood is sent by her mother with a basket of cake and butter for her sick grandmother. On her way she meets a wolf and tells him her errand. He rushes ahead, devours grandmother, puts on her clothes and jumps into her bed. When Red Riding Hood arrives, he gobbles her up too. In the German version a huntsman arrives, cuts open the wolf, releases the child and revives her. From The Graphic. (London, 1900).
