Portrait bust of the Roman Emperor Balbinus, second quarter of 3rd century. Balbinus (c165-238) was emperor together with Pupienus for three months in 238, which was known as the Year of the Six Emperors. Their rule was characterised by constant disagreement and mutual mistrust before they were both murdered by the Praetorian Guard. Found in the collection of the State Hermitage, St Petersburg.
