'Well Rowed All!', 1869. Artist: Joseph Swain
'Well Rowed All!', 1869. This cartoon refers to the development of a 'special relationship' between Britain and the United States. In August 1969, the Boat Race featured a match between teams from the Universities of Oxford and Harvard. Oxford triumphed by nearly two lengths. Here, Mr 'Umpire' Punch congratulates both captains - Britain on the left, and America on the right. From Punch, or the London Charivari, September 11, 1869.
