'General Adoption of the Rolling Skate', 1866. Artist: George du Maurier
'General Adoption of the Rolling Skate', 1866. Men, women and children are all on roller skates, going about their usual business. In the top picture even the policeman is on skates. In the middle on the right, an old woman is being swept alongn by the wind on skates. To the left of her is a chimneysweep on skates. On the bottom left a man rides a horse while keeping up with a young woman who is skating down the road. Roller skating was all the fashion and, in this cartoon, Mr Punch shows the various ways in which the new craze could be used to keep the country moving. From Punch, or the London Charivari, February 17, 1866.
