Irish-born Wolseley (1833-1913) served in Burma, the Crimean War, the Indian Sepoy Rebellion, China, Canada, and widely in Africa. In 1885 Wolseley arrived at Khartoum too late to relieve General Gordon. He served as Commander-in-Chief of the British Army from 1890-1895.
