Robert Lowe MP, mid-late 19th century.
Robert Lowe MP, mid-late 19th century. First elected to Parliament as the Liberal MP for Kidderminster in 1852, Lowe (1811-1892) served as Chancellor of the Exchequer and then Home Secretary in the Gladstone administration of 1868-1874. When the Liberals returned to power in 1880 he was raised to the Lords as Viscount Sherbrooke, but by then suffering from failing eyesight, rarely intervened in debates.
