Anthony Trollope, writer, 1878. Trollope was one of the greatest Victorian novelists. He gained his reputation through a series of novels set in the fictional county of Barsetshire. These books include, The Warden, (1855), Barchester Towers, (1857) and The Last Chronicle of Barset, (1867). A second series of novels, set against a political background, includes Phineas Finn, (1869) and The Eustace Diamonds, (1873). From Men of Mark: a gallery of contemporary portraits of men distinguished in the Senate, the Church, in science, literature and art, the army, navy, law, medicine, etc. Photographed from life by Lock and Whitfield, with brief biographical notices by Thompson Cooper.
