The attempt by the Count de la Vaulx to cross the Mediterranean by balloon, 1901. A print from La Vie au Grand Air, 20th October 1901. The Count de la Vaulx departed from Toulon on 12 October 1901 in an attempt to fly to Algiers. A change in the wind direction forced him to abandon the attempt but he successfully landed the airship on the deck of a French Navy cruiser sailing in support of his bid.
