The death of the Comte de Paris, England, 1894. Artist: Lionel Noel Royer
The Death of the Comte de Paris, England, 1894. Louis-Philippe Albert of Orleans, Count of Paris (1838-1894) was the grandson of Louis-Philippe I, King of the French. He became the Prince Royal, heir to the throne, when his father, Prince Ferdinand-Philippe, Duke of Orleans, died in 1842. Attempts to place him on the throne after Louis-Philippe abdicated in 1848 came to nothing, and he fled into exile. He served in the Union Army in the American Civil War. The French monarchy was never restored and the Count of Paris died at Stowe House in Buckinghamshire.
