Ancient Observatory, Jantar Mantar, Delhi. India, 1864. The Observatory in Delhi was built in 1725 by the Maharaja and astronomer Jai Singh of Jaipur. It was designed to measure time and celestial co-ordinations for the Sun, Moon, planets and stars. Watercolor on paper, 36.8 x 52.1 cm. Inv. 1146-1869.
