Citron, from the 'Paper Museum' of Cassiano dal Pozzo (1588-1657). Rome, Italy, c.1640. A misshapen citron. The Paper Museum ('museo cartaceo') was a collection of drawings and prints assembled by the Italian scholar Cassiano dal Pozzo (1588-1657) in order to form a visual encyclopaedia of the ancient and natural worlds. Despite Cassiano dal Pozzo’s intentions the encyclopaedia was never published. Watercolor and bodycolor with gum heightening over black chalk, 24.2 x 26.3 cm. Inv. E.426-2009.
