Ritual Tetrapod Cauldron (fangding). China, Western Zhou dynasty (1046–771 B.C.), early 10th century B.C. This vessel features a single bird in profile. Six characters are cast on its inner wall: “Shu Hui [had] this vessel made for Gong Bo." Bronze, H. 6 in. (15.2 cm); W. 6 7/16 in. (16.4 cm); D. 5 in. (12.7 cm). Charlotte C. and John C.
