Alledged "lazy" prisoners are being punished by "Baumhängen" ["Tree-hanging"]. The image was formerly entitled : On the ground, Jack Werber, on the front tree the writer Karl Schnog, behind Otto Feuer. The SS guard has been variously identified as SS-Unterscharführer Sommer. However, the scene is likely to have been staged and photographed after the liberation of the concentration camp of Buchenwald in the spring of 1945. Photographed after 1941 at Ettersberg near Weimar, Germany.
